The New Kid in Town: Updates from the Courts and the Government in the Biden Era

Yee-haw! This year’s expedition begins by examining employment-related developments under both Texas and Federal law, including a discussion of significant legislative changes affecting us out here in the Wild Wild West.

Starbucks, Apple, Amazon, Google and a New Marshall in Town: Avoiding the Surge of Unions and NLRB Claims in a New Era

Non-unionized workplaces are under increased threat of union activity, with union-friendly help from the NLRB.  Learn the dos and don’ts of union avoidance as we compare and contrast well-known union campaigns that had mixed results.

Avoid a Western Shootout! Understanding the ADA

Understanding the American with Disability Act (“ADA”) does not have to be a western shootout.  Follow us to learn what requirements are imposed on Employers when presented with a legitimate request for a reasonable accommodation in the workplace.  Learn the do’s and don’ts of complying with the ADA before you get bucked off!

When the Sheriff Comes a Knockin, You Best be Ready! Responding to and Being Prepared for I-9 Audits

I-9 audits are not like riding a wild bronco in the Wild West if you know what is coming. Be prepared for I-9 audits by having your documents in order, know what to do, say and request if ICE is at your office, know what a DHS subpoena will look like, what to provide to ICE following issuance of a subpoena and how to challenge a fine from ICE.

New Employee Roundup: Riding through the Hiring and Onboarding Process

Saddle up and grab your lasso for a ride through the process of hiring and onboarding new employees in the workplace.  Learn to avoid the snakes and dynamite traps along the way as we discuss legal compliance and best practices when it comes to interview questions, background checks, necessary documentation (including I-9s), and much more.

Discipline in Anticipation of Litigation

“String ‘em up!  Put ‘em in the stockade! Get the rope!”  Now, now, don’t send ‘em to lock-up just yet Sheriff.  You may regret it later. The Wild West court system is not the place to learn the ropes on discipline.  Learn to strategize corrective actions that are defensible in court.
